Biography
Fateh Singh, aka Fateh Doe, was born on October 19 in Bangkok, Thailand to Punjabi Sikh parents who originated from Jalandhar, Punjab, India. At the age of six, him and his family moved to Hayward, California, in the U.S., where he was eventually introduced to hip hop and rap music. He attended John Muir Elementary School and Hayward High School and after completing high school his family relocated to Brampton in Ontario, Canada.
As a newcomer in Brampton, Fateh had a lot of time on his hands. That is when Fateh decided to focus on his passion for music and came up with the stage name Young Fateh. He later changed this stage name to Fateh Doe. In Brampton, he quietly worked and released three solo mixtapes: California State of Mind (2009), One Verse Curse (2010) and Mr Wall Street (2011). He would sell these CDs at malls and in his college parking lot to who ever would bite. He also joined the band "Zoo Babies" and was featured in the debut album of the band which is where he saw his first bit of success and notoriety.
Fateh gained popularity when he was discovered by U.K. mega producer Dr. Zeus in 2012 through his self produced YouTube videos. He was then featured on many chart topping tracks with Dr Zeus. Fateh started to work with big name Indian artists such as Amrinder Gill, Jaz Dhami, The PropheC, Jazzy B, Mickey Singh, and Gippy Grewal to name a few. He became known for his iconic multilingual flow where he seamlessly switches between English and Punjabi without missing a beat. Fans had never before heard someone fluent in both languages that was bending genres the way he did.
The song “Lovely” from the Bollywood film Happy New Year that Fateh was featured on went on to be the top 10 songs of 2014 in India. He also received nominations in the areas of ‘Breakthrough Act’, ‘Best North American Act’, and ‘Best Urban Asian Act’ at the 2015 Brit Asia Music Awards.
In August 2015, he released his debut solo single ‘Naiyo Jaan De’. In 2016, he released his debut studio album titled "Bring It Home” which has over 10 million streams across all platforms and is considered a classic in Punjabi Hip Hop. In 2018, Fateh released an unconventional body of work titled “To Whom It May Concern” which caught fans and the industry by surprise. It showcases extreme vulnerability and heartbreak which was something many had not seen before from a rapper. It was personal and had segments of full singing from the rapper. Also of note is that 7 out of the 8 songs were fully in English.
In 2019, Fateh released his most well received album to date titled “New Memories” which had world wide hits like “Aya Tenu Lehn” and “Jyotiana.” Fateh released his fourth album during the pandemic on October 23, 2020, under the name "Goes Without Saying". On January 27, 2022, Fateh released his fifth studio album “Hate That I Love You”. Also in 2022 he collaborated with New York rapper Straight Bank and together they released a trap/boom bap inspired rap album.
Fateh’s drive and unwavering belief in himself has fuelled his career for the last decade. He has become a household name across the globe and has performed at Festivals in Norway, club gigs in Malaysia and toured across Canada, the US, and Australia. With all of this under his belt, he has no plans of slowing down in 2023 and will continue to strive for the greatness that his fans knows he can achieve.
